"Well-behaved women seldom make history"

Bert

Bert grew up on a remote farm, on the dry veldt plains of South Africa where the red dirt roads stained her feet the colour of blood.  These rich textures of Africa inspired her with a passion for photography, an obsession with colour and a penchant for a great story.

In 2006 she won a BAFTA for a short film called ‘Antonio’s Breakfast’.
Later that year she met Bertie who shared a common love for fedoras and facial hair.

The rest, as they say is history… or is that herstory?!

Bertie

Bertie has a phobia of buttons.  Bertie loves hats.  Bertie harbors an over-enthusiastic obsession for Capoeira. Bertie writes stories. Bertie trained to be a dancer but couldn’t help wanting to usurp the choreographer.  So she did.  Three years later she was ten thousand miles away penning a novel.  A year later she was making video games for PlayStation.  Five years later she met Bert.  A year later they made a short.  Two years later she wrote her first feature film.

Now she mostly makes films, eats wasabi peas, chuckles like a man, rides a Brompton and drinks too much coffee.

Yo-Yo

Yo-Yo can recite from memory the entire script of “The Goonies”

Yo-Yo directed and presented her first TV series when she was 15, in the same year, Richard Donner directed “The Goonies”.

Yo-Yo has directed documentaries for every TV channel you can think of; created content for every corporation you can name and won some golden, golden prizes. None of this compares to the visceral thrill she experiences while watching “The Goonies”

Yo-Yo films all over the world, often in countries where many people have never seen “The Goonies”.

Yo-Yo met Bert in a bar ten years ago and Bertie in a bar three years ago . . . Err . . . “The Goonies.”

Bertish Friends

Leftie (Leftie-de-la-Bert)

Leftie is a sports-mad foodie who between swatting balls and scarfing sushi finds time to make documentaries about the weird and the wonderful.

Hailing from Canada with a background in broadcast journalism, Leftie honed her skills at the BBC and National Geographic Channel before going indie with The Berties. Staying true to her name, she is left-handed and left-footed and is the proud owner of a left-pawed pooch.

Leftie's dream dinner party would see her host Tina Fey, David Sedaris, Roger Federer and Emma Thompson, assuming they all like lobster and lemon meringue pie.

Tally (Talbert)

Loves sunshine and light... and trampolining.

She first engaged in the wonderful world of film at the tender age of 14 and there’s been no stopping her ever since.  A human whirlwind, producing TV commercials, radio commercials, large scale events; music, theatre, comedy… whatever… and then little quirky numbers just to keep her balanced.

Her beautiful liaison with Bertie’s began a few years ago, long may the harmony continue…

Tally produces, it’s what she does. She does it magically. Without a magic wand. She has something else instead.

Polly (Polybertene)

Polly Mallinson was born in South East London, one day after her due date as her mother wanted to go and see 'The Godfather' at the Lewisham Odeon. An auspicious start.

She loved school very much, particularly when she could go to the cinema during her time at Islington Sixth Form College...which she did a lot. After leaving university she got a job at the BFI in London then, after spells in Brussels, Indonesia and Boston, she met Jonathan Demme at a wedding from which was born a wonderful working collaboration over the next 5 years.

On returning to London Polly was very happy to team up with Play-Tone Productions as a London based Production Executive and currently collaborates with her producing partner Krista Parris in Iris Pictures. She is also a fully subscribed member of the Bert & Bertie Fan Club.
